The Ultimate Hangover Cure: Why This ‘The Witcher’ Onion Soup Is a Life-Saver After a Night in a Tavern
Netflix’s hit show has given us another iconic (and pretty useful) recipe.
Every movie or TV show fan knows what it’s like to become obsessed with the story’s inner world, diving deep into its culture and culinary as well. Joining the long list of TV series that introduced some famous dishes to the world, Netflix’s The Witcher has now turned its authentic onion soup into a media phenomenon, with many trying to reach the same taste in their kitchen.
This recipe’s other advantage is that it’s pretty easy to follow its instructions and get the best soup you’ve eaten, also letting you kill some time before The Witcher’s next season comes along.
Here’s what you need: 5 white onions, 100 ml of 20% cream, 3 tbsp of wheat flour, 3 egg yolks, 120 g of butter, 200 g of Gouda cheese, white bread (to taste), 200 g of fresh champignon mushrooms.
Wash and peel the onion, then slice it into rings.
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Once it has completely melted, add all the onions and the flour. Stirring constantly, cook the mixture for 30 minutes to prevent it from burning. Once the onions are soft, add water and simmer the mixture for another 30 minutes, stirring frequently.
Combine the egg yolks with the cream and whisk lightly. Next, add the cream and egg yolk mixture to the saucepan, season with salt, and stir again.
Simmer the soup, covered, for another 20 minutes. Meanwhile, toast the bread and sliced mushrooms in a dry skillet.
Cut the cheese into small cubes and arrange them on empty plates.
Divide the finished onion soup among the plates and stir gently so that the cheese melts at the bottom. Add the mushrooms to each plate and serve with toasted white bread.
