A perfect option for those sticking to healthy lifestyle, but still wanting to eat tasty.

Despite the beef being the core of some of the most delicious dishes out there, many people keep avoiding it just to not do much harm to their figure. However, some seemingly hacked the system and just substituted the beed with turkey, getting the same meat meal with a significantly smaller amount of calories.

This also concerns the turkey chili that, apart from turkey itself, contains quite many vegetables that go well with healthy lifestyle. If you’ve been looking for a healthy dinner option, here it is.

Ingredients (for 6 portions): 1 tablespoon of olive oil, 2 pounds (about 900 g) of ground turkey (you can use a mix of white and dark meat for a richer flavor), 2 cups of coarsely chopped onion, 2 tablespoons of minced garlic, 1 large sweet red bell pepper (seeded and coarsely chopped), 1 cup of chopped celery, 1 jalapeño (seeded and finely chopped), 1 tablespoon of fresh oregano (or 1 tablespoon of the dried kind), 2 bay leaves, 3 tablespoons of chili powder, 2 teaspoons of ground cumin, 3 cups of canned chopped tomatoes, 2 cans (15 ounces each) of red kidney beans (drained), 2 cups of grated cheddar cheese, 1 cup of sour cream (optional), lime slices for garnish (optional).

Heat the oil in a large, heavy saucepan over high heat. Add the ground turkey and cook until lightly browned (about 5 minutes), breaking up any clumps with a spoon.

Add the onion, garlic, bell pepper, celery, jalapeño, oregano, bay leaves, chili powder, and cumin. Stir and cook for 5 minutes.

Add the tomatoes, chicken broth, salt and pepper to taste. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 15 minutes.

Add the dried beans and cook for another 10 minutes.

Serve in bowls with cheddar cheese, sour cream, and lime wedges (if desired).
