It’s just too hard to not get stuck in one role forever.

While many actors starting out in Hollywood dream of their big break, others struggle to get another role. While starring in something as popular as The Vampire Diaries can give an actor a lot of opportunities and open many doors to help them move up the career ladder, there's always the possibility of getting stuck in one type of role forever.

This was a real fear that Paul Wesley, who portrayed Stefan Salvatore in the series mentioned above, had as he moved forward in his acting career. Fortunately, he now has a chance to prove himself and get recognition for another big role, as he stars as Captain Kirk in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

But that doesn't mean he's ready to go back to the good old bloodthirsty ways. If anything, Paul Wesley seems very determined to leave Mystic Falls behind and explore other universes outside of it.

In an interview with InStyle, the actor talked about the struggle he faced and the reason behind his decision to "never do another vampire anything”:

“When I get recognized, it's because of Stefan. It's the biggest thing I've ever done, as far as popularity. I've done a bunch of roles since The Vampire Diaries, but nothing has been nearly as popular, so I think you have to get that next thing that puts you into a conversation that involves you and not the character that you're known for playing,” Wesley said.

As he admitted later in the interview, getting over Stefan and finally leaving The Vampire Diaries behind was the main reason he got the role of Captain Kirk in the first place. The character being one of the most recognizable in geek culture would definitely help Paul Wesley get the variety of roles he craves.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is already back on our screens with season 2. Tune in every Thursday on Paramount Plus to never miss another episode.
