The White Lotus Music Scandal: Composer Hits Back at ‘Toxic’ Mike White After Dramatic Exit

There’s no way we’ll see (and hear) the return of the famous “ooh-loo-loo-loo” now.
A major and pretty discouraging change is about to enter The White Lotus ’ next season production, with the series’ most compelling part likely not being the same anymore.
Just ahead of the third season’s finale last Sunday, The White Lotus’ composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer dropped a bombshell, revealing he’s quitting Mike White’s hit series after working on the truly epic music for all three seasons.
The latest instalment, as numerous fans admitted, definitely missed the vibe many associated with HBO’s feverish drama, but the main theme might be a minor problem after Tapia de Veer’s more recent revelations about collaborating with Mike White.
Cristobal Tapia de Veer Hints Working With Mike White Is ‘Toxic’
As the composer previously stated, his relationships with The White Lotus’ creator quickly went into complete disarray when White refused to turn the show’s main theme into some sort of an experiment Tapia de Veer was trying to conduct.
In a new interview with Global News, the composer admitted he wouldn’t want to stick to the same sound over and over again just for the audiences to expect it in the show and thus hold a responsibility for another significant part of the entire project.
“There are so many reasons to get attached to something — even if it’s like (being in) a toxic relationship. We reached a point (that was) unsustainable on a personal level. I just want to be more comfortable with the people I work with”, Tapia de Veer said, adding that he’s been trying to quit the show since season 1, but “for various reasons, I kept coming back”.
Mike White, in his turn, has already offered his perspective of the whole scandal, calling the composer’s intention to unravel behind-the-scenes mess “a b**ch move” (via Deadline).
The White Lotus Fans Hated Season 3 Opening Theme Song
It’s fair to say the show’s latest instalment was a big departure from the overall image after it was revealed the season’s theme song wouldn’t feature the fan-favourite “ooh-loo-loo-loo” vocals.
“I’m not really one to complain about tv show intros, but they were playing the s2 one in clubs, bro. It was ICONIC. Felt like an important part of the vibes of the show. S3 intro is fine but I cannot lie that part of the hype getting to this new season was “what’ll the season 3 intro sound like!” Redditor vocloz commented in a discussion thread.
Others mostly agreed, saying that at least the vocals should have made it to the new song, which, in its turn, could have saved The White Lotus from a decent portion of criticism.
