The White Lotus Season 3 Just Dropped, but All Fans Already Hate This One Big Change

Change drives progress, but sometimes it just makes fans angry.
HBO has finally premiered the third season of the TV anthology The White Lotus, one of the network's biggest hits of the decade. In the new episodes, a group of tourists find themselves in a Thai hotel where, of course, a mysterious murder soon occurs.
Episode 1 Was Praised by Fans Despite Its Slow Pace
The third season will be the longest one. The first season had six episodes, the second seven, this time we have eight episodes. This allowed Mike White to devote almost the entire first episode to getting to know the characters.
In an hour of screen time, apart from the tense introduction, almost nothing happens. The characters check into the hotel, interact with each other and gradually get to know the rest of the characters.
Fans, however, accepted and even praised the first episode, which was entirely devoted to exposition.
Most of the Viewers Did Not Appreciate the New Theme Song
But what viewers almost unanimously criticized was the new opening credits. Or rather, its musical accompaniment. Reddit user shockinglyunoriginal wrote:
“I can't understand the justification for changing it! It was iconic, and instantly recognizable. This new one, just does nothing.”
Yes, it is definitely heartbreaking we will not hear the famous “Loloolooos” this season.
Season 3 Theme Song Composer Was Inspired by Spirituality and Singing Cats
While recording the new melody, composer Cristobal Tapia de Veer was inspired by the topic of spirituality. And singing cats.
The White Lotus theme song, Aloha!, was recognizable from the beginning of the show, but the Renaissance remix for the Sicilian season took it to a new level. The dance beat became more intense towards the end which made the Season 2 song a hit in clubs.
Cristobal himself initially thought the composition was “terrible.” In an interview with Variety, the composer admitted that he was inspired by TikTok for the new song:
“I hear interesting things in TikTok or YouTube sometimes. [...] So I've been looking a lot into these eight-second bits of music that people [are] putting together and harmonizing a cat or stupid, silliest things. To me, it's like a gold mine, it's just moving to me.”
Despite the criticism, the theme song for the Thai story seems transcendental, fitting the spiritual topic of Season 3. It wouldn't be surprising to see fans forget about "Loloolooos" in a few weeks and start clapping along to the new tune.
