Netflix fantasy series' fans aren't going to let go that fast.

The Witcher 's fans have launched a petition on Change.org urging Netflix to remove writers and keep Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. The petition titled "NETFLIX: You MUST keep Henry Cavill as The Witcher and replace the writers instead" has gained more than 12,000 votes at the time of the writing.

The petition starts with a quote attributed to the creator of The Witcher's universe Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski who said he was absolutely happy with Cavill playing Geralt.

"I was more than happy with Henry Cavill's appearance as The Witcher, he's a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn, so Henry gave his to Geralt and it shall be forever so," the quote reads.

The Witcher fans' latest initiative is a true cry of despair, which follows Henry Cavill's departure from the Netflix series. Although the actor said he was switching to DC Extended Universe to play Superman, the show's fans believe Cavill left the series over disagreements with the showrunners and the writers in particular. The upcoming Season 3 will be the last when we'll enjoy Cavill as Geralt with Liam Hemsworth set to inhabit the character for Season 4.

Witcher Fandom Suggests a Plausible Reason for Cavill's Exit

In his interview with Hardware Zone the British actor said he would like his character to have a closer relationship to the character in the books and be more book accurate.

"It was more to do with making sure and campaigning for him to sound more intellectual, more philosophical, and to have an emotional side as well, rather than just be a grumpy snowman. Every day I was pushing this stuff as far as prep goes…," Cavill said.

In another interview with The Hollywood Reporter last November, Cavill said he was committed to continue play Geralt "as long as we can keep telling great stories which honor [author Andrzej] Sapkowski's work."

One of the factors which may have caused Cavil's resignation from the popular Netflix series was the shocking revelations of The Witcher's ex-producer Beau DeMayo. He caused a stir among the fans when he said that some writers on the show's team "actively disliked the books," the CD Projekt Red's games and even mocked the source material – something which is totally unacceptable if one is on any franchise production team.

It is not known if Andrzej Sapkowski has made any comments regarding the Change.org petition. He has also said nothing so far about Henry Cavill's departure from the The Witcher series.

Season 3 of The Witcher is expected to premiere in summer 2023. The live-action prequel The Witcher: Blood Origin is set for a Christmas 2022 release.
