There's a Wednesday Addams Show With a Higher Rating Than Netflix's 'Wednesday'
It turns out you don't need multi-million dollar budgets and famous actors to make the best Wednesday Addams show – as proven by Melissa Hunter's Adult Wednesday Addams.
Netflix has recently released the first part of the second season of Wednesday, one of the platform's most popular shows and one of the best projects about the Addams family.
Of the more than a dozen projects about the Addams family, the least remembered is the highest rated – even higher than Wednesday on Netflix – Adult Wednesday Addams.
I watched this series, and here's why it is a must-see for all Addams Family fans.
What Is 'Adult Wednesday Addams' About?
Adult Wednesday Addams is a parody sketch series in which the girl tries to live an ordinary life in the modern world. After leaving the Addams mansion, she moves to Los Angeles, where her dark worldview collides with the absurdity of everyday life.
In each 3- to 5-minute episode, Wednesday goes through job interviews, dates, and housing searches, all while maintaining her deadpan, sarcastic demeanor.
12 Years Later, Fans of the Addams Family Still Praise 'Adult Wednesday Addams'
Melissa Hunter produced, directed, and starred in Adult Wednesday Addams, but the show didn't last long. After two seasons and 13 episodes, YouTube removed the series due to copyright claims from the Addams Family franchise holders.
Fans were disappointed by this decision because the project was non-commercial and created out of love for the character.
However, some fans still consider this version the best modern incarnation of Wednesday – witty, concise, and true to the spirit of the original. One of the Redditors said:
“Sure the Netflix series has very high production values and all, but it lacks the biting humor of Adult Wednesday Addams.”
While the Netflix series brought the Addams Family back into the mainstream, Adult Wednesday Addams proved that even a small fan project can become an outstanding project praised by fans.
