Theron and Tatum Hit the Dance Floor Again? This Upcoming Comedy Has My Attention
Famous faces,one dance floor — and some parental drama.
Keeping an eye on upcoming film projects, I couldn’t help but get curious about Dance Parents, starring both Charlize Theron and Channing Tatum. A dance-themed comedy with two actors who’ve each had surprising ties to the dance floor? That’s the kind of film news I don’t scroll past.
Plot details are still under wraps, but the title hints at the world of competitive kids' dance — and some very involved parents. Throw in the fact that Tatum and Theron once danced together at the 2013 Oscars, and it starts to feel like the stars are lining up.
Tatum, of course, is no stranger to the dance floor — he made his name with Step Up and Magic Mike, both of which proved he can move. And from what I’ve seen, he still enjoys reminding us of that.
What surprised me recently was Theron’s background in ballet, mentioned in an Entertainment Weekly interview for The Old Guard 2.
"I love dance, but I would never have been able to go back and be a dancer again," she said.
That makes her casting in Dance Parents feel like a fun full-circle moment.
Director Jonathan Levine is behind the camera — known for 50/50, The Night Before, and Long Shot with Theron. The script comes from Meghan Malloy, who worked on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Vivo — a solid mix of heart and movement, if you ask me.
Will it be a wild satire, a dance-floor romp, or something in between? Hard to say — but it’s already looking like the kind of comedy I’ll happily watch.
