After watching her new sports series on Netflix, I decided it’s time to binge the real gems with the actress again.

You can talk a lot about how romantic comedies are not serious cinema, but I will still defend them every time. And Kate Hudson's recent interview with Entertainment Weekly proves me right. As the star of many rom-coms, Hudson points out that movie critics are looking for different things than the general audience. And despite the fact that her many rom-coms have been poorly reviewed by critics, people love them.

“When you're making a movie to feel a certain way, I call it a spectrum: Who are you making them for? Are you making it for the critic? Are you making it for the people? You try to make the best movie possible, telling the story that you're trying to tell. If you're trying to think about it as who you're trying to please, you're probably going to miss,” she said in the interview.

My favorite Kate Hudson romantic comedy is the one where she stars alongside Matthew McConaughey as they try to play games with each other.

Released in 2003, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has undoubtedly earned its place as one of the most iconic romantic comedies of the early 2000s. While some may see it as a cringeworthy film from an era defined by over-the-top, exaggerated stereotypes, I still love it, even though I understand what they are talking about.

What How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Is About?

The premise of the movie is rather chaotic: Kate Hudson's Andie Anderson is a lifestyle columnist who has to write an article about how to lose a guy in 10 days, while at the same time the charming but secretly love-averse Ben Barry, played by McConaughey, accepts a bet that he can make any woman fall in love with him in the same amount of time. The rest is history...

One of the reasons I find the movie so lovable is the performance of Hudson herself. Her portrayal of Andie is both compelling and frustrating. She uses her wit to create laugh-out-loud situations, but also shows her vulnerability, and that's exactly what makes her character so relatable. It helps, of course, that she has great chemistry with McConaughey.

You can stream How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days on Hulu and Apple TV+.
