It's the perfect binge-watch you've been sleeping on.

In early March, the third and final season of the anime Beastars aired. The title kept viewers gripped for six years with its dark and mature story about a world of anthropomorphic animals.

Despite its controversial 3D graphics, Netflix managed to complete the adaptation of Paru Itagaki's manga triumphantly. Here's what made the finale memorable and why this title is a must-watch.

What Is 'Beastars' Season 3 About?

The plot has always revolved around Legoshi, a gray wolf who falls in love with Haru, a rabbit, in a world where interspecies unions are frowned upon.

The characters' tragedies unfold against the backdrop of an investigation into the murder of a herbivorous student that divides society into predators and prey.

The third season, divided into two parts, shifts the story away from teen drama and toward action-packed detective fiction. The main antagonist is Melon, a leopard-gazelle hybrid seeking revenge on the world for his rejection.

Legoshi must confront Melon while the red deer Louis tries to stop the production of illegal substances that turn predators into uncontrollable killers.

'Beastars' Has Evolved From a Teen Drama Into a Brutal Action Story That Explores the Nature of Predators

If the first season of Beastars could be compared to Elite in the animal kingdom, then the finale turns into Jujutsu Kaisen with severed limbs and criminal wars. Blood flows freely, and the hypersexualization of the earlier episodes gives way to nonstop action.

The characters constantly reflect on whether discrimination can be eradicated, how to embrace the differences of half-breeds, and if society can become ideal.

Contrary to these reflections, the creators depict deep-sea inhabitants who, without remorse, take turns eating each other, thus maintaining the natural cycle of life.

The Visual Style and Action Were Taken to a Whole New Level in the Finale

The 3D animation of Beastars has long been controversial – manga fans criticized it for being too simple, and new viewers struggled to adjust to the unusual visuals. However, in the third season, the studio found the perfect balance.

The action scenes are dynamically choreographed, the characters' movements are smoother, and the visual accents are more precise. Melon, with his tattooed body and medical mask, looks frighteningly charismatic.

Melon's arc is so expansive that the second half of the season simply brings it to a logical conclusion, leaving no room for new arcs. It's a finale that doesn't provide easy answers but leaves you wondering.

If you haven't watched Beastars yet, now is the perfect time – all three seasons are currently available on Netflix, and you can dive into this dark and violent world.
