Agnes, a literature professor at a small New England college, is visited for the weekend by Lydie, a friend from her college days.

The friends meet up with their classmates. During the conversation, the former students remember Professor Decker – Agnes's academic advisor who harassed her and then quit abruptly.

The girl was deeply affected by the sexual violence and even considered suicide – only Lydie was there for her.

'Sorry, Baby' Is a Big Debut from Eva Victor Produced by Barry Jenkins

Sorry, Baby marks the debut of Eva Victor, an actress from the rom-com Dating & New York and the series Billions. During the pandemic, she wrote a script and sent it to Barry Jenkins, the director of Moonlight.

Jenkins doesn't just make movies – he also helps young authors. He also produced Aftersun by Charlotte Wells.

Sorry, Baby is another great project made possible by Jenkins's efforts. Victor's debut was one of the most anticipated premieres at Sundance, and A24 bought the distribution rights.

Eva Victor has found a new cinematic language with which to discuss trauma and life after disaster. In recent years, many movies have exposed perpetrators of sexual violence and given a voice to victims.

However, Victor didn't create a heavy-handed dramatic film about retribution – she chose a different tone, incorporating light and humor into a tragic story.

Victor doesn't depict the act of violence itself nor does she try to shock the audience. The incident remains behind closed doors – the viewers only see Decker's house. The director doesn't devote extra time to the rapist because he is not worth it – Agnes' evolution is more important.

What Did Critics & Viewers Think of 'Sorry, Baby'?
