Did Law & Order: SVU take inspiration from Better Call Saul?

Don’t you think there are similarities between Law & Order: SVU and Better Call Saul, the Breaking Bad spinoff that follows the criminal lawyer? While there are some similarities, the shows are really different in so many aspects. However, there is one character in SVU who shares some resemblance with Saul Goodman.

A Reddit user noticed a peculiar similarity. Rob Miller's backstory in SVU mirrors that of Jimmy McGill (Saul Goodman's real name). How’s that, you might ask? Well, for starters, both characters have a history tied to a family-owned shop.

In Better Call Saul, we learn that Jimmy's father owned a store, and young Jimmy was exposed to the harsh realities of the world early on. An encounter with a beggar in the store taught him about the concept of "wolves and sheep," urging him to decide which one he wanted to be.

This lesson shaped Jimmy's future, pushing him towards the "wolf" path, where he often bends or breaks the law to get what he wants.

Similarly, Rob Miller's backstory in SVU reveals that his father owned a shop and was frequently targeted by loan sharks. A traumatic incident where these loan sharks took his sister to the back room, presumably raping her, left a lasting impact on Miller.

This upbringing led him to become one of New York City's top ten attorneys, known for his fierce reputation and extensive connections. Like Saul, Miller's past shaped his present.

Miller even shared the same "wolves and sheep" philosophy, just like the one Saul Good learned. In the 18th episode of season 20, titled Blackout, where Miller appears for the first time, he literally says:

“You're either a wolf in this life or a lamb. My father was a lamb. [...] I'd rather run with the wolves.”

Both characters eventually become successful lawyers, both become criminals. But there are differences.

In Better Call Saul, Jimmy's transformation into the morally ambiguous Saul Goodman is evident. Knowingly or unknowingly, he had a lot of people dead, especially when he worked with the notorious Heisenberg.

However, Rob Miller's character in SVU takes a darker turn. He goes from being a top lawyer to a rapist, murderer, and stalker. Miller's actions escalate, from raping defense attorney Nikki Staines to murdering a teenage girl named Lindsay Parker. But still, the similarities are undeniable.
