The first season of this show was released a year ago, but it received much less attention than it deserved. It's a cozy, gripping detective story, perfect for cold fall evenings.

A year ago, Murder in a Small Town, a Canadian detective series based on L.R. Wright's book series about detective Karl Alberg, was released.

Here is what makes the first season of Murder in a Small Town fascinating and why you should wait for the second season, premiering on September 23.

What Is 'Murder in a Small Town' About?

An experienced police officer arrives in the small town of Gibsons, British Columbia, bringing with him a baggage of unresolved personal problems. Karl has an unsuccessful marriage and two daughters, the eldest of whom no longer wants to speak to him.

A job in a quiet seaside paradise is a chance for him to start over. However, Karl's life will not be calm. In this cozy town, a crime occurs every week.

Either an elderly man is found dead in his home, or a serial maniac appears in the local forests.

Every Episode of 'Murder in a Small Town' Will Keep You Glued to the Screen

The episodes of Murder in a Small Town, based on the book series by L.R. Wright, are reminiscent of good old classic detective stories.

In just 40 minutes, the authors manage to fool the viewer several times, invariably leaving them in a state of shock by the end.

Here, suspects and victims switch places, criminals can be nobler than the murdered, and anyone, even the most inconspicuous neighbor, can be expected to pull a trick.

In 'Murder in a Small Town', the Detective & Romantic Storylines Are Both Convincing

The search for criminals is not the only important plotline of the series. Perhaps even more important is the story of the budding romance between Carl and Cassandra, a librarian whose personal life is not going well.

The romantic plotline in Murder in a Small Town is written in an adult way. There are no sudden outbursts of love or impulsive actions. It's the story of two mature people who didn't think there would be room for great feelings in their lives.

Sometimes the romantic and detective plotlines intertwine unexpectedly. In small Gibsons, everyone knows each other, so any suspect is almost certainly connected to the characters in some way.
