What Is 'Ragnarok' About?

Magne and Laurits, two teenagers, return with their mother to the picturesque Norwegian town of Edda – the family left many years ago after their father died. The town is in turmoil: the locals have been frequently falling ill, and many blame the Jutul family's dirty factories.

The Jutul children, Fjor and Saxa, attend the same school as Magne and Laurits and always defend their parents' reputation. Magne's new friend, the young eco-activist Isolde, doesn't believe the factories are safe – she soon dies under mysterious circumstances.

Magne is certain that he saw Vidar Jutul, the head of the company, nearby, so he begins an investigation. He soon discovers that he has superpowers: extraordinary strength and the ability to control lightning.

The authors are on par with Neil Gaiman, the author of American Gods: in this world, ancient deities live among humans, but they are weakened by humanity's loss of faith.

The events of Ragnarok unfold slowly and are interspersed with scenes of Edda's everyday life and the characters' teenage problems. The series is all about well-developed characters, touching relationships, and intriguing plotlines.

At the same time, Ragnarok is an aesthetically pleasing spectacle – the city of Edda is surrounded by beautiful yet dangerous snow-capped Norwegian mountains.

'Ragnarok's Main Strength Is Its Brilliant Cast of Scandinavian Actors

Ragnarok boasts an excellent cast of Scandinavian actors who excel in their roles. The villains are particularly striking: Icelandic actor Gísli Örn Garðarsson plays Vidar, a terrifying and bloodthirsty leader who appears to the public as a true gentleman.

The most engaging character, however, is the local version of Loki, played by Jonas Strand Gravli – he gradually transforms from a kind and harmless teenager into a charming and cunning trickster.

Laurits doesn't shy away from wearing makeup or women's clothing, which brings him closer to the Loki of the myths.
