Marriage drama paired with spy shenanigans appears to have already conquered the critics’ hearts. The viewers, though, will have to wait until March 14 to have their say.

The new product of Steven Soderbergh's collaboration with David Koepp already seems to be a success, even though the premiere of the movie is only one week away. The upcoming film stars such giants of the industry as Cate Blanchett, Michael Fassbender, and Pierce Brosnan, so there's no doubt that it will also appeal to older audiences and encourage them to return to theaters.

The movie’s name is Black Bag, and it’s a spy thriller that also explores the complexities of a marriage, made even more complicated by the fact that both spouses work for the same intelligence agency.

What Is Black Bag About?

In the movie, Michael Fassbender stars as George Woodhouse, an intelligence officer at the National Cyber Security Center that focuses on technology, and he discovers that a mole within the agency is trying to steal the cyber weapon known as Severus.

The thing with Severus is that it’s a powerful tool that is capable of infiltrating nuclear facilities and causing massive damage. And as the movie begins, George is tasked with identifying five key suspects, all with similar security clearances, who may be double agents.

The plot takes a personal turn when one of the suspects is his wife, Kathryn St. Jean played by Cate Blanchett… Now, George must confront the possibility that his wife may be hiding dangerous secrets from him and from the country.

Needless to say, Fassbender is perfectly cast as the cool, enigmatic George, a man torn between his duties as a spy and his overwhelming love for his wife, pushing him to a Mission: Impossible-like dilemma.

“Another Soderbergh classic! Hope Focus/Uni fires up the Nosferatu marketing machine. With reviews this good it should get to $100 million in no time. They're getting really good with it, too,” Redditor KingMario05 said.

Black Bag's theatrical release is scheduled for March 14, 2025.
