You can't go wrong with Kathy Bates.

Amy Farrah Fowler was never intended to be such an important character in The Big Bang Theory as she ended up being.

Meant to appear only in one episode, she grew to be much more than a perfect match for Sheldon and was able to develop into a character of her own.

However, there was a period of time when no one was exactly sure how long she would stay, so at the time some minor mistakes were made.

In season 4, Amy had to introduce Sheldon to her mother, as they took another step into their relationship.

It was established by the plot that they're taking everything as seriously as possible, but still, as showrunner Steve Holland admitted to TVLine, producers just weren't so sure about Amy.

To make it easy for everyone involved, they cast Annie O'Donnell to play in a short introduction scene via Skype.

The appearance of any other Fowlers besides Amy herself seemed to be over and done with at that point, and the story just continued to progress.

However, 7 years later, in season 11, they saw the need to re-introduce the character again. This time they decided to take it to the next level, and invited Oscar-winner Kathy Bates to take the part.

"Chuck Lorre had a relationship with Kathy Bates after they worked together and, well, how do you say no to bringing Kathy Bates on?" Holland recalled jokingly.

This recast might've been the best decision for the show, as the character was a huge success among the fans, and Kathy Bates added an amazing spark to her.

Although occurring just in a few episodes, she perfectly fits into the chaotic The Big Bang Theory energy and provided her best performance, leaving an impression on the fans.

If you want to rewatch your favorite The Big Bang Theory episodes, like Amy and Sheldon's wedding in the season 11 finale, you can stream the show on Netflix or MAX.
