This The Witcher Episode Holds the Key to the Series' Survival

Think Netflix's The Witcher is doomed? It still has a way out, but that's not an easy one.
Netflix's The Witcher has strayed so far from its source material that it's hard to imagine it ever getting back on track. Henry Cavill left the show after 3 seasons, every major storyline has been completely butchered and many lost hope by the end of Season 1 already.
But there is one episode that gives us a glimpse of what could have been.
A Grain of Truth: The Witcher Episode That Got It Right… Almost
Season 2 kicked off with quite a promising start adapting the short story from The Last Wish, A Grain of Truth. Now, I don’t mean the messed up Yennefer storyline. I'm talking about the Ciri and Geralt part of the episode (the one that actually adapts the story).
Of course they took some liberties. This is Netflix we're talking about here. But surprisingly, I didn’t mind those changes at all.
The story follows Geralt and Ciri as they seek shelter in the mansion of Nivellen, a cursed man. In the original story, there was only Geralt, but Ciri adds a dynamic that feels natural.
Why Grain of Truth Feels Better Compared to Other The Witcher Episodes?
There are a lot of elements that make the episode good, but the main one is that they managed to create the similar atmosphere as in the short story. Yes, there are still a lot changed, but the core things that make The Witcher special are there.
The visual effects are great. Nivellen's mansion feels magical and menacing at the same time. Vereena's movement and the whole fight scene choreography was also great.
How A Grain of Truth Can Help Netflix’s The Witcher?
A Grain of Truth is the highest rated episode of Season 2 on IMDb with 8.5/10 and it hasn't been topped since.
The truth is that the damage the showrunners did might be too extensive to fully repair. The Witcher has gone off the rails a long time ago and it’s at the point of no turning back. However, they do have one solution.
Yes, it's not perfect. Yes, they cannot fix anything major at this point, but they can redeem themselves in a small yet meaningful way by adding these short stories to their already broken universe.
Currently, we’re expecting season 4 to arrive at some point in the second half of 2025.
Watch A Grain of Truth on Netflix Right Now
It's getting sadder than you realize that one of the best episodes of the show is still not the most faithful adaptation.
The Witcher would be too powerful if it was faithful to the source material. But for now, we have to appreciate these little things. You can catch A Grain of Truth on Netflix right now.
