Thunderbolts* turned out to be a triumph for Marvel, and Bob has already become a fan favorite. But what exactly happened to him at the end of the movie, and why did Yelena go into The Void's dark dimension?
Jake Schreier's Thunderbolts*, the final film in the fifth phase of the MCU, has finally been released. The movie has become one of the best Marvel projects in recent memory, receiving 88% from critics and 94% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, some viewers were left with questions: What happened to Bob? And why did Yelena Belova enter the Void's dark realm? Let's find out.
The following text contains spoilers for Thunderbolts*!
Bob Turned Out to Be a Hidden Antagonist, Under the Influence of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine
Bob/Sentry is the hidden antagonist of the movie with Superman-like abilities. He suffers from depression and cannot control his anger, which almost led to a catastrophe.
Three personalities coexist within him: the good-natured Bob, the superhero Sentry, and the dark Void. Valentina Allegra de Fontaine awakens the Sentry's superpower in him and tricks the man into turning against the Thunderbolts. She has to eliminate the heroes because they know about her major crimes.
After the first successful battle against the superteam, the villain feels like an all-powerful god, gradually loses his mind and tries to kill the leader. Mel, Valentina's assistant, uses a special device to “turn off” the Sentry and save the boss.
The Void Is the Darkest Part of Bob's Personality
After the attack, a part of Bob is trapped in the dark side – the Void takes over his body and soul. Bob has always wanted to help people, but the Void believes that humanity can only be saved through complete immersion in darkness.
He erases victims from reality and places them in a special realm where they are trapped alone with their own fears.
Yelena Decided to Enter the Dark Realm Because, Like Bob, She Suffered From Depression
Yelena Belova befriended Bob – she sympathizes with him because Yelena herself suffers from depression and feels that she has nothing to lose and that life has lost its meaning. That is why Belova goes to meet the Void and enters the other world.
There, Yelena defeats a personal nightmare and then helps Bob's light side come out of his own depression. The Thunderbolts follow Belova – they defeat the Void, but find themselves in a trap set by Allegra de Fontaine.
Val announces to a crowd of journalists that the Thunderbolts are the New Avengers. The crowd cheers, the team is stunned, and Valentina thinks she won. But Yelena whispers in de Fontaine's ear that this is not the end.
