A perfect option for your delicious breakfast or a coffee break.

Sometimes iconic movies or cartoons create not less iconic recipes that fans want to repeat again and again. For some, The Princess and the Frog’s famous beignets will pop up in mind, tempting each viewer with its deep-fried look and definitely delicious taste.

If you want to dive deep into the world of the hit cartoon, here’s the precise instructions on how to make the most authentic New Orleans beignets.

Ingredients: 180 ml of warm water (not hot), 60 g of sugar, 8 g of yeast, 120 ml of warm milk, 40 g of butter, 1 egg, 500 g of flour, 0.5 tsp of salt, vegetable oil for frying, honey or powdered sugar for serving.

Add 1 tablespoon of sugar and the yeast to the water, then let it rest for 10-15 minutes until foam forms.

Next, add the warm milk, the remaining sugar, melted butter, the egg, and salt, and mix. Add the sifted flour: start with 450 g, then mix the dough. If it sticks to your hands, add the remaining flour or more if needed. Remember that you may need different amounts.

When the dough no longer sticks to your hands and is fairly smooth, cover it with a towel and let it rest in a warm place (away from cold drafts) for an hour to an hour and a half.

Divide the risen dough into 3 parts, roll each piece out to a thickness of 0.5 cm, and cut into squares or rectangles. Cover with a towel and let them rise.

Meanwhile, heat a large amount of oil. Fry each piece of dough on all sides until golden brown. The doughnuts fry fairly quickly, so keep an eye on them.

Place the finished donuts on a paper towel for a few minutes to remove excess oil.

Serve the donuts hot; the classic way is with honey or powdered sugar, but feel free to try other combinations.
