Tim Burton is officially stepping behind the camera for a new take on Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, and things just got a lot more real — and a lot bigger. The project, first whispered about earlier this year, has now confirmed a major name: Margot Robbie is not only set to star as the towering lead, but she’ll also produce the film through her LuckyChap banner.
Originally released in 1958, Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman became a cult classic with its delightfully bizarre tale of a wealthy heiress who has an unfortunate run-in with a UFO — and ends up growing to enormous size.
Burton’s version promises a modern reimagining of that wild premise, laced with the kind of gothic flair and offbeat spectacle fans have come to expect from the Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands director. The script was initially penned by Gone Girl screenwriter Gillian Flynn, though she won’t be returning for the next draft. Warner Bros. is now seeking a new writer to refine the story, but with Robbie onboard, the project seems to have gained real momentum.
