The upcoming movie might have been considered the last chapter in the Tom Cruise-led Mission: Impossible movie series, but the actor doesn’t rule out more action-packed installments — here’s what Cruise had to say about the matter recently.

This year’s Cannes Film Festival has just kicked it off with a new Mission: Impossible movie, though it might not be the last one after all.

Starring Tom Cruise just like the previous seven movies, The Final Reckoning will hit the theatres around the globe next week, boasting of a budget close to $400 million and becoming the most expensive movie ever made.

Still, its potential box office success might be expected to pave the way for yet another sequel — at least that’s what Cruise’s recent revelations about the hit action franchise probably gave hope for.

Tom Cruise Might Be Up to More Mission: Impossible Sequels — He Doesn’t Admit It Yet Though

Since Final Reckoning’s title directly refers to the idea of the movie being the last chapter of Mission: Impossible’s long standing franchise, many have already assumed there’s no way for Cruise’s Ethan Hunt to come back to the screens.

The actor, however, didn’t reveal anything about more movies being in the works, yet he still didn’t deny such a possibility either.

“I’d rather just people see it and enjoy and we’ve had an amazing time doing it and it’s been a lot of fun and I just want you all to enjoy it. Enjoy this and know everything is the culmination has come to this moment right now”, Cruise said during an interview at the Cannes Film Festival.

Apart from that, Cruise also revealed that he actually enjoys doing all those stunts that have already found their own worldwide fame separately from the Mission: Impossible franchise itself.

“I’ve always felt, you know, I don’t mind kind of encountering the unknown, and I like the feeling. It’s just an emotion for me. It’s something that is not paralyzing. It doesn’t bother me. I enjoy any endeavor in life. People can be afraid to do something, and I’m like, ‘OK, I want to.’ I don’t mind kind of confronting it and going in … People can be quite frightened about the unknown, and I never have been”, the actor said.

Mission: Impossible Fans Aren’t So Sure About More Sequels

Some of the franchise’s fans have delved more into the matter, becoming convinced that the actor’s schedule for a couple of upcoming years will be kept busy thanks to Mission: Impossible’s next installments.

Others, however, remained sceptical about Cruise’s ability to return to the franchise at all.

“But don't believe for a second it'll be the actual last one. Tom Cruise himself has said he wants to keep making M:I movies for as long as he is capable, and even used Harrison Ford as an example of doing action movies into his 80s. Something Tom has said he hopes to be able to do as well. Bottom line, it's all hype. They're pushing it this way because it'll get more people interested. I have no doubt we'll get more movies down the line. It's just a matter of when”, Redditor DoomsdayFAN revealed in a movie-related thread.

“It will be the last with Tom Cruise. He has already moved on and have already finished filming "Judy" and has many others lined up. It's unsure if it's Broadsword or Deeper that is next but I think it will be Broadsword, also hope so”, EducationalMap6347 disagreed in the comments.

When Is Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning Being Released?

The movie will hit theatres worldwide on May 23.
