The Harry Potter franchise has officially booked its original actor for reprising his role in the upcoming project. It might not be what you think though.

HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter reboot has yet to announce who will portray Draco Malfoy in a new adaptation, but a Broadway play didn’t look much further than the original movie series.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, JK Rowling’s play which comes as a sequel to the original book series, has just cast Tom Felton as, well, Draco Malfoy again, bringing the actor back to the story more than 10 years after the original franchise’s ending.

The actor is now set to make his Broadway debut this year, though his appearance in the play will be some sort of limited edition, so fans better secure their tickets in advance.

Tom Felton Says It’s “Surreal” to Return to Harry Potter

The Broadway play will mark Felton’s first appearance as one of the franchise’s most iconic villains, so no wonder the actor is excited to get back to the role.

“Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Joining this production will be a full-circle moment for me, because when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, I’ll also be the exact age Draco is in the play. It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world. I look forward to joining this incredible company and being a part of the Broadway community”, Felton said in a statement shared by Today.

For now, the actor is confirmed to reprise his role on Broadway stage from November 11 to March 22, 2026, at the Lyric Theatre in New York City.

Even though it’s very unlikely that the actor would appear in front of the camera again, Felton has been long rumored to come on board for HBO’s upcoming reboot as one of the producers alongside JK Rowling.

Nothing has been confirmed so far, but there’s a saying about Felton’s “behind-the-scenes role” in the production set to start sometime this summer.

“Everyone knows that Tom has Jo's blessing. While others turned their backs on her, he treated her with dignity even if he disagreed with her”, sources said in a statement shared by Daily Mail several weeks ago.

In fact, Felton might be the most excited about meeting the new young actor who will land his role.

“I think we're all very excited to see the wizarding world continue. I look forward to knocking on young Draco's door and surprising him, or something like that”, he revealed at the opening of a new Harry Potter Shop in Chicago back in April (via CBR).
