Tom Hanks’ Comedy Classic With 98% RT Score Is a True Hidden Gem on Hulu

More than 25 years later, the movie remains one of Hanks’ highest-rated flicks that might soon find a new life on streaming.
There’s a handful of movies that come to mind when Tom Hanks’ name is mentioned, with those being Steven Spielberg ’s war masterpiece Saving Private Ryan, Robert Zemeckis’s heartwarming drama Forrest Gump or even Pixar’s hit movie series Toy Story.
The actor’s filmography hides much more than that though, offering his fans a whole collection of pure gems remaining in the shadows of Hanks’ more prominent projects.
One of his movies, released all the way back in 1988, turned into a massive hit soon after its release, later on becoming a critical darling and winning big in the box office. The movie has been mostly forgotten since then, but Hulu might be the one to finally fix the problem.
Tom Hanks’ Oscar-Nominated Comedy Big Is Streaming on Hulu
The hit movie has remained a solid piece in the streamer’s collection for some time now, seeking more audiences to engage with after the massive success it had back in the day.
Released in 1988, Big follows Josh Baskin, a 13-year-old boy who wishes he was “big” and could skip all the troubles of adolescence that are ahead of him. His wish does come true the next morning when Josh wakes up as a pretty real adult and starts his life afresh, dealing with something only grown-up people can understand.
However, soon Josh realises he’s been delusional about being an adult and wishes he would be able to go back in time to cherish the simple joys of his childhood.
Big Is Still One of Tom Hanks’ Highest-Rated Movies
One of the frontrunners for Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay at the 1989 Oscars ceremony, Big was a critical darling that garnered numerous accolades, establishing Tom Hanks’ status as one of most promising actors in Hollywood for years or even decades to come.
With a modest budget of $18 million, the movie grossed more than $150 million, becoming one of the biggest box office successes that year; it also garnered positive reviews from both critics and audiences, currently keeping scores of 98% and 82% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
Even with a bunch of more prominent films under his belt, Hanks still has Big as one of his highest-rated projects, surpassed only by several movies and shows with a perfect score of 100%, including Toy Story, Everything Is Copy, The Bloody Hundredth and some others.
