In one word, professionalism over prejudice.

If there is one thing Spider-Man fans are always happy to see, it is their favorite actor stepping out of the Marvel box and trying his hand at different characters.

No one questioned Tom Holland 's talent when he starred in the psychological thriller The Devil All the Time and the fantasy adventure Chaos Walking, so the new TV show The Crowded Room will surely be welcomed in the same way.

Both Holland and his co-star, Amanda Seyfried, seem extremely excited to be introducing their characters.

While the actor admits that the show was very interesting to shoot, it had a lot of firsts: Billy Milligan is his first character with mental health issues, for example.

The Crowded Room is also the first project that required him to film a sex scene with someone of the same sex. However, Holland refuses to mark it as an important step in his acting career:

“I think it is a first [for me]. It’s not a milestone, though. It’s not something that I’m like, ‘Oh, wow. I got to play my first character with a different sexual preference than I have.’ It’s obviously a little more complicated than that. It felt very important to tell the story authentically,” the actor said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

This answer is not surprising, as Holland later admits in the same interview how fortunate he was to grow up in a household that did not condone or translate any kind of toxic masculinity.

This may be the best approach an actor can take to actually show a character's feelings in full transparency.

Besides, with LGBTQ+ characters finally much closer to being normalized on television and in other media, it's not like they need any special treatment at all. If anything, Milligan's character is complicated for very different reasons.

If you're already intrigued by The Crowded Room, you're in for a treat, as the first three episodes are already available on Apple TV Plus.

Stay tuned for more episodes coming your way every Friday!
