Tommy’s Vote Revealed: The Last of Us Star Breaks Silence After Shocking Council Scene

The few votes for possible revenge for Abby after Joel’s death remained anonymous in The Last of Us’ latest episode, but some might have wondered which side Tommy stays on — the character’s actor Gabriel Luna breaks down the show’s pivotal moment.
Things are about to swirl even more intensely after the gruesome end Pedro Pascal ’s Joel met in the second season’s episode 2, with the show now centring on Ellie’s path towards revenge for Abby and her group.
The series’ most recent episode 3 has seen the outcome of Jackson’s council regarding the citizens’ desire to avenge Joel’s death too, with the decision eventually prompting Ellie and Dina to embark on their own journey in search for Abby in Seattle.
Witnessing just a couple of ‘yes’ votes, the scene doesn’t reveal the thoughts of Joel’s brother Tommy on the matter — however, it’s pretty easy to guess the answer which has just been offered by Tommy’s actor Gabriel Luna.
What Does Tommy Vote for in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 3?
In the episode, the votes remain anonymous, with most of them being ‘no’ and signalling the majority of the council’s unwillingness to risk their own lives after Joel was beaten to death.
The latter’s brother Tommy, however, is visibly upset by the decision, which implies he did vote for tracking Abby down and bringing her to justice.
“I haven't seen the final cut; I saw a version of this scene. I wonder if it's different, but it's we got to do it the right way, but I got her back a hundred percent. I'm voting yes, we go, and it's a quick vote for me. The moment we start taking the votes, I write it down, I hold it up, I look around, and it's we're all in this together, right? Everybody's on the same page. In the end, it may very well be just me, possibly Maria. I think she votes yes. The third vote, not exactly sure who that is, but it's not Jesse,” Gabriel Luna recently revealed in an interview with GQ.
The actor also reflected on a major dilemma Tommy has to deal with, being torn by his desire to protect the entire community and a need to avenge his brother’s untimely death.
“Tommy has his allegiances, of course, to his family, his wife, his child, and the community, yes. But also to the closest person to the love in Ellie's life that she just lost. And as the closest person to that, I have my allegiances to her, and things shake out from there,” Luna added.
What Jesse’s ‘No’ Vote Might Mean for The Last of Us
Even though it seems pretty obvious that both Tommy and his wife Maria voted ‘yes’ at the council, it’s not yet clear who was the third person to share their opinion, and Luna’s assurance it wasn’t Jesse might cause some trouble for the latter.
In both the game and the show, Jesse is directly connected to Dina, being her boyfriend at the time, which is why his decision to stay away from Abby will likely not be perceived well neither by Ellie nor by Dina.
