Tulsa King season 4 episode 2 preview: is Margaret actually dead?
The premiere never shows a body. Everything the people who made it have said since shows a funeral.
Tulsa King season 4 opened on October 16 on Paramount+ with an episode titled "WWDD" and a plane that never lands. Margaret Devereaux (Dana Delany) joins newly elected Oklahoma governor Cal Thresher (Neal McDonough) on a flight to a governors' conference in the Mariana Islands.
Mid-flight, air traffic control gets radio silence. A single cabin shot shows everyone aboard — Margaret, Cal, the pilots — unconscious. Then Dwight's sister Joanne (Annabella Sciorra) wakes him with the news.
"The plane that Margaret and Thresher were on went down somewhere over the Pacific."
— Joanne, in the final minutes of the season 4 premiere
No crash shown, no bodies recovered. In any other mob drama that's a resurrection kit. Here, the production has spent the premiere's press cycle treating it as an obituary:
- Terence Winter, the original showrunner back in charge after Dave Erickson's exit, told TV Insider at the New York premiere why he chose to end both characters' stories — his framing was about the show's constant churn, not a mystery box.
- Sylvester Stallone is credited by the premiere coverage as the one who conceived the double kill as a deliberate creative gamble.
- Neal McDonough admitted he saw only one of the two deaths coming — and spoke about Delany's exit in the past tense, as a permanent write-out.
So yes: barring a writers' room U-turn, Margaret is dead, and she died the way TV kills characters it needs gone rather than ones it plans to bring back.

Dwight spent three seasons building something legitimate enough to deserve her. The show removed her in one off-screen minute of turbulence.

Episode 2 arrives Friday, October 23, and it inherits a changed series: Dwight in grief, Oklahoma without a governor, a new gangster circling the Fifty's distribution money, and a case of suspiciously cheap luxury wine that Bodhi (Martin Starr) has already flagged. Further out, the franchise is busy expanding anyway — a Samuel L. Jackson spinoff now titled Frisco King is in development, and season 5 is reported to move Dwight to New York. Margaret was the reason to stay in Tulsa. Her exit reads like the show agreeing.
