The creators of Severance have already debunked all the fan theories about clones, but this one deals with something more complex and convincing at the same time.

It's becoming difficult to find new words to describe the skill with which Severance develops new and existing mysteries.

Some argue that the show is too slow to pick up steam, since we still don't know Lumon's overall plan after almost an entire second season. However, this fixation on the big picture misses out on a host of hidden Easter eggs and hints.

Severance Episode 9 Has a Carefully Hidden The Twilight Zone Easter Egg

Gemma remains Severance's most mysterious character – Mark's previously cheerful wife has become Lumon's test subject for an as-yet unknown reason. But where Dan Erickson, Ben Stiller, and the writing team leave dark spots, there are fans who pick up on all the clues and references.

Redditor Far_Bite1218 noticed that the ninth episode of Season 2 is called The After Hours – the same title as the 34th episode of the first season of The Twilight Zone released in 1960. And this episode adds a new creepy layer to Gemma's background.

What Is The Twilight Zone's The After Hours Episode About?

Marsha White has come to a department store to buy a gift for her mother. The elevator operator takes her to the 9th floor, although there are only 8 floors.

By chance, she stays in the store after it closes and is horrified by the living mannequins. After she calms down, White remembers that she, too, is a mannequin. Marsha lived among people for a month, forgetting her past, but the time has come to return and give way to one of the other mannequins in the outside world.

Gemma Might Be a Highly Biological Robot Created by Lumon

According to the theory, Gemma is some kind of highly biological robot created by Lumon that thinks she is a human. The main goal of the corporation is to harness the four tempers. To do this, they created a blank slate that was released into the outside world to experience life as a normal person.

Because of this, the workers on the testing floor can monitor Gemma's brain changes and then transmit the data to the MDR workers for processing.

So far, fans have assumed that Gemma's brain might be completely or partially dead, allowing Lumon to study it in detail. However, the robot version explains it even better.

It would also explain why Gemma can conceive but cannot have children – perhaps the woman suffered a miscarriage because her artificial body rejected the human embryo.

The After Hours Is Not the Only The Twilight Zone Episode Connected to Severance

What's even more mind-blowing is that Gemma's fate is not only hinted at in the episode The After Hours, but also in the next one called... The Mighty Casey.

It focuses on a left-handed baseball pitcher who eventually turns out to be a robot that the team manager is trying to make more human.

In Episode 7 of the second season of Severance, we see Dr. Mauer forcing Gemma to write hundreds of Christmas cards. And which hand is she using? That's right, her left hand. Need any more proof?
