Unfortunate Oscar Bait Movie With 100% RT Score Is Now Streaming
The hit movie is the first major win for its country in 30 years.
For many, this year’s awards season has been a disappointment so big that the movies which weren’t able to make it to the competition might have just had a lucky escape from all the mess.
Still, many of those deserved a bigger acclaim and at least a couple of nods from the Academy, including the movie that stunned everyone at the Cannes Film Festival back in 2024 and was praised as a potentially Oscar-worthy flick.
Whether the Academy made a right decision after all or not, the film is now all yours to judge by yourself since it was recently dropped on Prime Video and Apple TV+ after quite a long wait.
All We Imagine as Light Is Now Streaming
Indian filmmaker Payal Kapadia’s feature debut, All We Imagine as Light first premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year and later hit theatres in India in September, also receiving a worldwide release in November.
The movie follows two roommates and colleagues as they navigate through their life hardships in noisy and never sleeping Mumbai.
Prabha, a nurse in a local hospital, is torn by a dilemma while being courted by a fellow doctor at her hospital and staying loyal to her husband from an arranged marriage; Anu, in her turn, has a secret romance with a Muslim man her strict Hindu family has no clue about, and tries to build more intimate relationships with him, but can’t find the right time and place.
The Indian drama where many will find plenty of modern-life truths masterfully draws parallels between the hectic life of megapolis and the serenity of the Indian countryside where characters are trying to hide from Mumbai’s overwhelming attention to their secrets.
All We Imagine as Light Received Universal Acclaim, but Still Didn’t Make it to Oscar Competition
Granted with the Cannes Film Festival’s Grand Prix award, All We Imagine as Light became the first Indian movie to enter the main competition since a 1994 drama film Swaham did so back in the day.
The film later on gained an even wider success, ending up with a perfect score of 100% from critics and 68% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, while also securing two Golden Globe nominations for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Director.
Still, All We Imagine as Light left the ceremony with no statuettes and later on was completely ignored by the Academy too.
