Universal Orlando closure dates: Harry Potter's Forbidden Journey shuts down in 2027 — and the Hogwarts Express stops running even sooner
If your trip is built around the Wizarding World, two dates on Universal's refurbishment calendar matter more than the rest of it combined.
The headline dates first. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey — the ride inside Hogwarts Castle at Islands of Adventure — closes February 8 through February 19, 2027. The Hogwarts Express closes much sooner and much shorter: both stations shut on November 4, 2026, with the train planned to resume on November 5.
Neither closure comes with an official explanation, which is normal — Universal publishes dates, not reasons, and winter is standard refurbishment season. But the practical impact of each one is worth spelling out.

What each closure actually costs you
The Forbidden Journey closure is the serious one. For those 12 February days, Hogwarts Castle still stands and the queue's walkthrough is typically unavailable with the ride, meaning the anchor attraction of the whole Hogsmeade land is dark. Flight of the Hippogriff and the Hagrid's coaster carry the land, but if riding through Hogwarts is the reason for the trip, plan around February 8–19.

The Hogwarts Express day is a logistics problem rather than a heartbreak. The train is the only ride connection between King's Cross (Universal Studios Florida) and Hogsmeade (Islands of Adventure), and it requires a park-to-park ticket.
On November 4, a park-to-park ticket buys you the same walk between parks that a single-park ticket does.
The rest of the calendar
The Potter closures sit inside a busy refurbishment season, per Undercover Tourist's running list:
- Jurassic Park River Adventure (Islands of Adventure): closed nearly all of 2026, January 5 to December 16.
- Volcano Bay: seasonal closure from October 26, 2026, reopening on or before April 1, 2027.
- Animal Actors on Location! (Universal Studios Florida): closing permanently — last show November 2, 2026.
- Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges (Islands of Adventure): January 4 to February 2, 2027.
- Fyre Drill (Epic Universe): January 25 to February 4, 2027.
Two planning takeaways. January and early February are the thin months — the water rides at two parks plus Epic Universe's Fyre Drill are all down at once, which is the trade-off for the smallest crowds of the year. And all of these dates are subject to change without notice, so check Universal's official calendar the week before you fly, not the month.
