The second season of the HBO series Euphoria was not received with the same enthusiasm as the first one.

There have been several scandals surrounding its creator, Sam Levinson: the exploitation of actors on a daily basis, disagreements with Barbie Ferreira that led to her role being cut and the actress leaving the project, the male gaze, and the unwarranted sexualization of teenage characters.

And yet, viewers continue to love the show, as many have found themselves relating to the issues raised, such as exploring one's sexuality, accepting one's body, and overcoming addiction.

And while some have an aversion to certain protagonists, others long for creators to focus on the relationship between two seemingly different characters.

We are talking about Rue, played by Zendaya, and Maddy, portrayed by Alexa Demie. As noted by Reddit user Ok-Flamingo8809, the dynamics of Maddie and Roo's relationship deserve more attention from writers and viewers alike:

"She [Maddy] knows that everyone is f*****d up in their own ways, and she never tried to judge her [Rue]. Which is the part I like about Maddy. It would be interesting to see more of them in future and I think Sam Levinson should focus on that,"

They are referring to episode 17, where Rue exposes the relationship between Cassie, Maddie's friend, and Nate, Maddie's boyfriend.

Maddie trusts and even cares for Rue, worrying about her addiction problem, while Rue also stands by for her.

Redditors agreed that they wanted to see the duo's relationship deepen, even though they consider it more platonic:

"I think growing apart but still loving each other and showing it when you can be together is something that most people go through and it should really be shown more in tv and movies," Redditor jacksev says.

Maddie was also considered very empathetic, always willing to listen to other people's problems and feel other people's experiences.

At the same time, her image as a party girl was interpreted as a defense mechanism, radically different from the "real" Maddie.

However, there is one character whose relationship with Maddie is one that Redditors definitely don't want to see:

"I stan building Maddy's relationship with everyone except, of course, THOSE two who need not be named," Redditor hotbriochedameron shares, implying Nate and his father, Cal.

Season 3 of Euphoria has been officially confirmed, although a release date is still unknown.
