"Useless Blob" of a Character The Boys Fans Apparently Deem the Worst

The worst character in The Boys is not Homelander, according to fans.

The Boys ' fresh take on superheroes and modern society, impeccable casting, and walking on the edge between sanity and total madness all give the Amazon show its huge viewership and dedicated fanbase.

The perfectly written and developed characters with complicated arcs add to the craze about The Boys.

However, not all of the characters are equally loved by viewers. And while for some leads of the story, fans' hate is natural and intentional, others were supposed to be loved by the audience but ended up in a totally different position.

Among the characters who ignite strong negative feelings, fans often name Homelander and Stormfront. It is hard to not fall in hate when you see all the horrible things these two do. Stormfront is a hateful Nazi, after all.

While she was severely punished and killed off in Season 3, Homelander is still very much alive and well despite all of Butcher's efforts. The season 3 finale shows him moving to a new level of repulsiveness and taking Ryan with him.

All the repellent traits of Homelander were neatly built by the writers of The Boys, and Antony Starr 's incredible performance adds new disgusting layers to the character. So the negative reaction of viewers is carefully planned and intentional.

At the same time, fans love Homelander for being such a powerful antagonist and an intriguing and complex character. But there's one The Boys character whose repulsiveness doesn't come from a script but from his very existence, according to fans.

"Hughie Campbell is shameless, atrocious fan service that spoils an otherwise solid cast," a Redditor called u/cuttingcup wrote on The Boys Subreddit. "Against a backdrop of so many distinct and well-defined characters, the useless blob called Hughie is so glaringly faded and unsatisfying."

The Reddit thread continues with more hate for Hughie.

"The problem is that he's just not interesting. He's generic, his struggles and growth are predictable and uninteresting," one of the commenters wrote.

Looks like fans are not happy with the protagonist's mediocrity when all the other characters are so far from mediocre.

"The writers are ticking all the boxes to make the least likable character on this show. I hope they kill him off soon," another commenter wrote, and many fans (though not all) agree with this opinion.
