The Last of Us’ new long-awaited installment will arrive right after The White Lotus season 3 wraps up.

The new season for HBO’s acclaimed apocalyptic drama The Last of Us is basically right around the corner, as now it finally has an official premiere date, rumours about which were circulating for several weeks now.

Around the same time, HBO dropped the first teaser for the upcoming installment, also announcing that the second season would premiere in April. There has been no word about a specific date whatsoever, so fans started speculating about when exactly we might expect The Last of Us season 2 to arrive on Max.

One of those theories seemed to be quite close to coming true at some point, which is what it just did after HBO’s major update on the anticipated show.

The Last of Us Season 2 Is Premiering on April 13

As the time for the new season’s release approaches, HBO finally broke its silence on the matter, giving another sneak peek in a new trio of posters for lead characters and also revealing that the first episode will become available for watching on Max on April 13.

While the first season primarily covered the first part of the original video game of the same name, The Last of Us season 2 is now set to follow the second game’s storyline only partially.

Naturally, the series’ co-creator Craig Mazin has previously stated that the events of the second part of the video game are enough to cover at least a couple of the TV show’s installments, if not more.

The Last of Us season 2 will also introduce Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby, a new lead who will play a crucial role in the upcoming installment’s twists and turns.

Ever since HBO announced the return of The Last of Us this April, fans were wondering about the time slot and day of the week the company had chosen for the show’s new episodes’ premiere.

While some were hoping to see The Last of Us come back in the beginning of the month, others stated that the show was likely to premiere on April 13, right after The White Lotus season 3 comes to its end.

The latter is currently releasing a new episode every Sunday, with the last one set to hit Max on April 6, so the theory actually made a lot of sense even back then, as HBO wouldn’t have another better option than just placing its hit show right after another successful one.
