There's no doubt that Virgin River has captured the hearts of viewers since its debut on Netflix in 2019.

The charming setting, lovable characters, and heartwarming love stories have made it a fan favorite.

However, the show's upcoming season has caused some concern among fans, as the drama seems to be repeating the same mistake as Grey's Anatomy, which ultimately played a big part in the decreased ratings of the medical drama.

The latest season of Virgin River left off with plenty of cliffhangers and unanswered questions.

But if fans thought the showrunners had any intention of toning the drama down, they have another thing coming – there are, in fact, plans to kick it up a notch.

Alexandra Breckenridge, the lead actress who portrays the main character Mel Monroe in the series, has revealed some interesting details about the upcoming season in a NewBeauty interview.

She expressed her opinion about the current season, stating that it has begun strongly and that soon there will be some exceptionally weighty episodes.

"They're really intense and I think that they're some of the best episodes we've ever done. I never say that either!

I think that there's a high sense of drama that starts to come up this season that it's going to leave people on the edge of their seats. At least, I hope," she further revealed.

But while this may be exciting for the cast, the real question is, do viewers really want to be left on the edge of their seats?

After all, Virgin River has been the type of show that many people watch to relax after a long day, not to get overly hyped up over it.

Following Breckenridge's revelation, fans took to Reddit to discuss their thoughts.

Some state that they loved it when the show didn't have any massive stakes and it was simply following the lives of nice characters, surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

In fact, for many viewers, the lack of action was the whole point as they didn't watch the show for drama, especially one that is dragged out over several seasons (like Charmaine's pregnancy, for example).

Many are now fearing that the storyline could lead to the downfall of the show, with some fans actually likening this unwelcome turn to the biggest mistake Grey's Anatomy made – turning a feel-good show into an all-out drama.

It's important for a successful series to learn from the mistakes of other shows and avoid making the same missteps.

Only time will tell if the Virgin River writers can navigate the storylines in a way that doesn't alienate viewers. However, fans are eagerly anticipating the next season to see how it will be handled.
