Where one cliffhanger ends, another begins.

Summary:

  • Virgin River finally revealed one of the biggest mysteries of the series.
  • The fans are relieved that Mel's father is alive and not a jerk.
  • The upcoming season 6 will have to answer some more questions about Mel's father.

Virgin River season 5 part 2 was probably the most anticipated chapter of all and there are many reasons for that. Despite the fact that the finale of part 1 actually wrapped up a lot of storylines, there were still plenty of unanswered questions and things that needed to happen in the two last episodes.

For example, fans wanted to see Charmaine finally give birth to her twins, since the story of her pregnancy had gone on for a ridiculously long time. And of course, the burning question was, who was the father? Well, while that question was already answered, another one appeared, also related to paternity.

For many episodes, one of the show’s mysteries was the identity of Mel’s father. She didn’t know whether he was dead or alive, and had no idea whatsoever of who he might be. However, the end of the first part of season 5 gave her a hint.

The thing is, her sister found a stack of love letters from a man who called himself "Champ," and the timing of the letters suggested that their mother might have had an affair with him and that he might be Mel's father after all.

So Who Is This Champ Man in Virgin River?

In the Christmas episodes released on November 30, Champ was revealed to be a man named Everett Reid. Mel and Jack went on a scavenger hunt to find him and succeeded in their mission. The fans were quite shocked that the story went that far, as they thought that two episodes would not cover serious issues.

“I didn't even expect to solve Mel's father plot. I figured they would find out more about him but wouldn't actually find him and they'd leave it to the next season,” Reddit user summerdipity.

After talking to many people, Mel and Jack finally managed to find out the man is still living in Virgin River. And that’s another thing that shocked the fans of the series.

“That drove me crazy!!! He’s a good looking man that lives in a big cabin. Nobody knows him?!! Where does he get his groceries from? Haha,” Redditor Unique-Orange-8980 said.

So Mel decided to visit him and confess that she might be his daughter, but the answer she got didn't satisfy her at all. Champ said that he was not her father and that he didn't know where she could find the man she was looking for.

However, in the second episode, he showed up at her house and finally admitted that he was her father and even gave her the letters from her mother. He also mentioned that he needed to tell her something important.

The fans of the show were happy to see this happen. As they all said, Mel really deserved to have a living parent on the show and they are really thankful to the writers that the father ended up being a completely new character. Now all they want is for the man not to suddenly die of an incurable disease...

All the five seasons of Virgin River are available to stream on Netflix.
