Harry Bosch is stuck in Prime Video's queue, so Titus Welliver went and became a very scary French chef instead.

Bad news first: Ballard season 2 still doesn't have a premiere date. Prime Video renewed the Bosch spinoff on October 6, 2025, and filming started in April 2026. By June, co-creator Michael Connelly said on the Books on the Beach podcast that they were about halfway through and that the release wasn't scheduled yet:

"It'll be out either late this year or early next year."

— Michael Connelly

A Variety report around the same time claimed season 2 would arrive in July 2026. Variety later quietly removed the date from the story, and July came and went without Renée Ballard.

What season 2 is working with

(Season 1 spoiler ahead.)

  • The cliffhanger: Ballard (Maggie Q) ended season 1 as the prime suspect in the murder of a fellow detective, Robert Olivas.
  • New faces: Rosanna Arquette as Renée's estranged mother, plus Benjamin Bratt, Hamish Linklater, and Ever Carradine.
  • Episode count: 10, same as season 1.
  • Bosch: Welliver says he shot three episodes.
  • The other Bosch: MGM+ is developing Bosch: Start of Watch, a prequel with Cameron Monaghan as a young Harry. Welliver isn't in that one.

Meanwhile, Welliver joined a sushi war

Get Jiro premiered at midnight on October 3, 2026, in Adult Swim's Toonami block, and hit HBO Max the next day. It's an adaptation of the 2012 DC/Vertigo graphic novel by Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose, set in a near-future Los Angeles where chefs are crime lords, food is currency, and people kill each other over restaurant reservations.

Brian Tee voices Jiro, a sushi chef in the city's poorer Outer Ring whose first episode turns violent because a customer breaks his one rule: no soy sauce. Welliver plays Bob, a gruff, meat-loving master of French cuisine who runs one of the two factions fighting over the city. Alison Pill plays Rose, who runs the other, and she's a militant vegan locavore. That part came straight from Bourdain, who once called vegans a "Hezbollah-like splinter faction" in Kitchen Confidential. At an Annecy panel, the team told Variety that Bourdain gave Rose her ridiculous hat for exactly that reason.

Co-creator Alessandro Tanaka insists there's warmth under all the knife fights:

"Bourdain's whole mantra was just food brings us together."

— Alessandro Tanaka, to Deadline

He then promised a lot of blood in between. Critics are split on whether it works. IGN gave it an 8 out of 10, while RogerEbert.com argued the animation looks cheap next to Langdon Foss's art in the original book.

What year does The Terminal List take place? Its prequel is locked to 2015 — and the math from there doesn't add up

There are 10 half-hour episodes, released weekly. If Adult Swim runs it without a break, the finale airs December 5 and lands on HBO Max on December 6.

Welliver spent ten seasons hunting killers in Los Angeles. In Get Jiro, he's one of the people running the city.

Get Jiro isn't his only side gig. In July 2026, Welliver co-starred with J.K. Simmons in MGM+'s The Westies as a corrupt NYPD cop, and he has also joined the final season of Netflix's The Night Agent.
