While his appearance in the spinoff was quite effective, it seems that the scene was a pretty haunting experience for the actor.

Summary:

  • Homelander's appearance in the Gen V season 1 finale was a welcome surprise for fans of The Boys franchise
  • However, the scene with Homelander landing led to a pretty vivid reaction from Antony Starr
  • Fans brought up a similar scene with Cameron Crovetti, who plays Homelander's son, although his reaction was drastically different

The finale of the TV series Gen V, a spin-off of the TV series The Boys created by Eric Kripke based on the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis, gave fans an exciting cameo by one of the major characters from the main series.

Homelander, once again portrayed by Antony Starr, arrived at Godolkin University to supposedly stop the escaped superhuman test subjects from massacring the university's staff.

In reality, however, things didn't go as planned, and he turned on one of the spinoff's main characters, Marie Moreau, who, unlike him, actually tried to put an end to the slaughter.

Antony Starr Got Pretty Scared While Performing a Stunt By Himself

Though his appearance in the series had long been speculated by fans, and even confirmed by leaked on-set photos well before the episode's release, seeing the evil reflection of DC Comics' Superman coming down from the sky was pretty effective.

But it turns out that the actor himself wasn't exactly thrilled with the scene, as a behind-the-scenes video of him performing the stunt all by himself clearly shows that Starr immediately regretted not using a stunt double for the scene.

Warning: the video contains explicit language.

Not one to shy away from some pretty strong language, the actor was visibly nervous as the film crew lifted him high into the air before shooting the scene, with many of them laughing at his colorful reaction.

The higher he got, the more nervous Starr became. And who can blame him, as everyone with a fear of heights has experienced a similar situation at least once in their life and can easily relate to what the actor was feeling at the time.

Fans point out that it actually makes for hilarious meme material and provides a nice insight into the work of actors, as such stunts look easy on screen, while in reality even a simple landing with the help of cables can be quite a terrifying experience.

The Actor Who Plays Homelander's Son Had A Very Similar Experience

Reddit users also recalled a very similar scene with Homelander's son from the third season of The Boys, but in that case, the actor portraying Ryan, Cameron Crovetti, passed the challenge much more calmly.

However, this is hardly a reason to mock Antony Starr, as some people are just not afraid of heights, and it seems that Crovetti is one of the lucky ones.

Besides, this is exactly why stuntmen exist, not every actor has to be Tom Cruise and do all the stunts by themselves, with fans jokingly pointing out that if Cruise was playing Homelander in this scene, he would have just jumped out of the sky without any cables to support him.

Hopefully, fans will be treated to more hilarious behind-the-scenes footage and bloopers as the franchise continues.

With the successful resolution of the Hollywood strikes, production can finally resume, with the fourth season of The Boys set to see the light of day sometime in 2024.

The Gen V spinoff has also been renewed for a second season, although there is no word yet on when it will be released.
