‘Watson’ Season 2 Won’t Air Until 2026: CBS Boss Explains Why

There’s a reason why the hit medical drama starring Morris Chestnut isn’t coming back to screens until early 2026, but this soon might become a pattern for the future seasons. Here’s what the CBS boss has to say in defense.
Those who are already desperate to see the new second season of CBS’ hit medical drama series Watson already this fall will have to wait a little bit more than that, though the reason has nothing to do with the production process anyway.
Starring Morris Chestnut as the eponymous character based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s Dr. John Watson, the show had its first season premiering back in January, eventually getting a second season greenlit even before the first one wrapped up.
Now that there’s a whole year gap between the two installments instead of just several months, Watson’s delay might be an exception rather than a rule, but other extremely successful shows’ history suggests there’s still a way worse option.
CBS Boss Defends ‘Watson’ Several-Month Delay of Season 2 Amidst the Network’s Busy Schedule
With a close collaboration with Paramount+ which, in its turn, has lots of Taylor Sheridan’s ongoing and brand new shows to broadcast at some point, CBS’ tight schedule suggested it would be better to push Watson’s season 2 to a January release, according to the network’s Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach.
“We’ll definitely be pushing viewers to binge it on Paramount+ in the meantime. But there truly was a lack of room on the schedule. You look at that schedule, there’s no other real logical place for it. Watson does really, really well for us on streaming as well. So we expect that viewers who might not catch it at 10 o’clock will catch on streaming because it’s had such a loyal fan base over on Paramount+. We think it’s the best of both worlds”, Reisenbach revealed in a statement to Deadline.
Amy Reisenbach Says CBS Still Has Advantage Over Streamers
Even though some might be already tired to wait for another bunch of TV series’ new seasons and now will have to tolerate Watson’s delay as well, Reisenbach suggests a several-month wait is nothing compared to 2-3 years gap that lots of modern shows now have in between their seasons.
“The streamers certainly have a lot longer than we do where they’re off air”, she added.
“I don’t normally watch weekly dramas but this one wasn’t exception. This is the first weekly drama that I have watched in over 5 years. Don’t make me wait too long for season 2”, a user Sue reacted in the comments under Deadline’s report.
“We are so freaking tired of these people playing games with our shows. GIVE US THE FULL SEASON WE’RE PAYING FOR!” Colleen agreed.
When Is ‘Watson’ Season 2 Premiering?
The show’s second season is currently scheduled to premiere on CBS and Paramount+ sometime in January of 2026.
