The finale of Season 1 of Andor, the series serving as a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, is about to air, while Season 2 is already in the works.

If Season 1 covers Cassian Andor 's path to becoming a committed rebel, Season 2 is supposed to encompass key points of his career within the Rebellion.

The problem is, we're unlikely to see Season 2 until 2024. The first season took around three years to film and complete post-production, though the pandemic's various filming restrictions impacted the project and resulted in significant delays.

But it stands to reason that the second season would take at least two years to make. Or, at least, it would take at least a couple of years unless a certain condition is fulfilled.

The Force Awakens Robbed Fans of an Awesome Andor-Like Star Wars Story

Filming a 12-episode season usually takes around 9 months, and there is no real way to reduce this period. But post-production, on the other hand, can be accelerated.

And Andor creator Tony Gilroy confirmed that the show could return sooner than expected, provided it receives the post-production funding it needs. As he mentioned to Collider, "If past is predicate, and we do the same thing we did before, it'll be on the same schedule. It will come out two years later. The only place you can accelerate the processes is in post, and the only way you can accelerate in post is with money, and money is tight."

However, Tony also explained why that is not likely to happen. Accelerating post-production doesn't simply require money, but lots and lots of money:

"So, I don't really know, there would have to be some serious motivation next May or June or something. Someone would have to say, "Wow, we really need this, and we're willing to pay X." Rogue One proved, if you throw money at it, you can do post really, really fast. It's just very, very, very expensive."

So, while theoretically we can see Andor Season 2 late in 2023, or early in 2024, the realistic release date is still autumn of 2024.
