We Now Know When This 2023 Horror Movie With Matt Smith Will Be on Streaming

Some good news for those who already miss House of the Dragon.
One of House of the Dragon’s lead stars, Matt Smith, isn’t putting on Daemon Targaryen’s armor anytime soon, but the actor’s fans now have another reason to mark their calendars.
Even before House of the Dragon season 2 arrived on streaming last year, Smith suddenly turned to a completely different genre after starring in a horror movie. Surprisingly enough, it eventually hit the screens in selected theaters only, and in many cases never reached those who would be the first in line to see the actor in a very unexpected role and landscape.
However, after a long wait, the flick is finally being released on digital platforms, but you still might have to wait a bit more.
Starve Acre Gets Official Digital Release Date in March
The long-awaited horror that premiered back in 2023, Starve Acre arrived in theaters in the US and the UK in July and October of last year respectively, and is now set to land on streaming on March 7.
However, unlike the majority of movies that have been added to streaming platforms’ collections recently, Starve Acre will be released on Shudder instead of Netflix or Prime Video, meaning that a potential viewer will have to get a subscription before watching the movie in case they still don’t have one.
Starring Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark, Starve Acre follows Richard, an archaeologist, and his wife Jules living in a lovely countryside with their young son Owen. When the latter starts acting weirdly and claims he has heard eerie whistling sounds around the house, Richard delves into some dark secrets that their family home has been long keeping from him.
The situation gets out of Richard’s control when a tragedy occurs and evil forces start haunting the family house.
Starve Acre Is a Star-Studded Folk Horror Tale Praised by Critics
Those who have been waiting for the movie’s arrival on streaming might have had a look at what others say about Starve Acre, and it’s no disappointment.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a critical score of 84%, with many praising the unmatched chemistry between Smith and Clark, who’s mostly famous for her role of Galadriel in Prime Video’s The Rings of Power, also noting that the movie did a good job bringing an outer evil force to a lovely household.
The audience score isn’t that optimistic though, currently sitting at 52%, though it might be a matter of time before Starve Acre is available to a wider public roughly more than a year after its premiere.
