Seriously, what’s wrong with love interests in Wednesday?

If there was ever a huge problem with Wednesday season 1, it was the lack of love interests that would be at least mildly convincing.

We had Tyler and Xavier as Wednesday’s potential boyfriends, as well as Ajax as Enid’s, and now we have someone just as plain flirting with Miss Addams’ roomie in season 2.

This feels like a good place to warn you of season 2 spoilers ahead — don’t read further if you’re not okay with that.

His name is Bruno, and that’s pretty much all I can say about him — because he has zero personality, aside from that “oh hey, I’m late to wolf out, too, just like you!” game. Suddenly, Ajax doesn’t seem like such a bad choice, huh?

“Ajax at least has a personality. Bruno is literally a blank slate. Congratulations Xavier, you are no longer the most boring love interest in the show,” said Redditor AnyIndustry3191.

Let me get this straight: this is not an Enid-hating rant. She doesn’t need reasons to suddenly fancy Bruno instead of Ajax. She’s a teenager who is exploring and trying to find her place (while randomly informing us that she cannot imagine her life without her best friend, because that’s what you say about your friends).

However, the writers of the show could at least try and make the boys around the main duo be interesting. Okay, Tyler is a mysterious villain, and Ajax is a cutie pie; who is Bruno, exactly? What makes him stand out? Why should we, as viewers, be invested in his potential relationship with Enid? Or is his only function just to be there so that Wednesday can be jealous of somebody? In that case, Ajax did that pretty well, too.

One Redditor has a pretty neat definition for Bruno, though.

“Just an unfulfilling distraction and fling for Enid while Wednesday is going through some stuff and being over-protective of Enid. Despite having that new guy, she’s still jealous of Wed’s stalker/lackey. Wenclair end-game seems like it’s still on the table,” Steak-Outrageous wrote.

Character-development-wise, fans feel frustrated. I wholeheartedly agree.

“Objectively hilarious that Enid broke up with her token male love interest just to get together with a blander, less interesting, token male love interest,” noted Redditor Kagamime1.

What do you think of Bruno?

Let’s see where it goes, though, shall we? We have a whole Volume 2 of Wednesday season 2 dropping on September 3.
