Were Bob and Lee Too Normal for ‘Desperate Housewives’? Fans Think So

In the world of Wisteria Lane, everyone seems to be involved in some kind of drama, whether it’s hiding a dark secret from neighbours or becoming a part of a hideous crime.

However, Desperate Housewives had just one major exception like Bob and Lee, a gay couple that moves to the neighbourhood in the fourth season, later becoming friends with most of the leading characters (and also turning into leads themselves).

As the series progressed, neither of the two got caught hiding something from the others, which some of Desperate Housewives’ fans thought was already suspicious enough to dive into an even deeper exploration of the characters.

Still, others see this as some sort of means to stay away from the show’s pretty depressing premise.

‘Desperate Housewives’ Fans Think Bob and Lee Had No Other Purpose But to Be Normal

Since basically everyone on the street had something to do with a major personal drama or even a local crime, it’s easy to see why some considered Bob and Lee the most undeveloped characters in the entire show.

Still, nothing in Desperate Housewives ever hinted at either of them being involved with any kind of drama (except for Lee being aware of all the drama happening on the street), so most of the series’ fans would rather see the characters as those who maintained some sort of normality on Wisteria Lane.

“Bob and Lee never had a secret they had to hide from everyone. They never had to coverup a crime. They didn't experience a death of their loved one, at least it wasn't shown in the series. What was the reason for having them in the first place?” Redditor g46152 wondered in a show-related thread.

“I guess they needed one normal, pretty stable, crime-free couple on that crazy street. Also, they were only gay couple on show and writers wanted to do positive representation”, Miss___D suggested.

“I think that is their purpose. Reprieve from the heavy drama that everyone else is always involved in”, Downtown-Fox-2421 agreed.

Will Bob and Lee Return in ‘Desperate Housewives’ Reboot?

While a remake for the cult classic crime drama series has been in the works since last year, it’s very unlikely that Bob and Lee, as well as other characters from the original show, will return to Wisteria Lane.

Apart from the fact that — try not to shed a tear here — everyone left the iconic street in Desperate Housewives’ finale, the upcoming reboot will most certainly centre on completely new characters that move to Wisteria Lane after the events of the show’s last season.
