Netflix’s hit sci-fi series has just returned with another season, so it might be time to finally get rid of that confusion.

It took two long years for the show to finally get back to the screen, but Black Mirror is once again on Netflix with a new season that premiered today, on April 10.

The series, acquired by Netflix after the first two extremely successful seasons, has so far been one of the longest-standing shows on modern TV, yet still its title might have been confusing enough even for those who watched every single season.

The answer, however, has been there for quite a long time already, but some fans have something even more curious to suggest about the matter.

Black Mirror Creators Explained Its Title a Long Time Ago

The show has been around for more than ten years by now, which means there was plenty of time for its creators to delve into the matter and give another glimpse into the whole idea.

They actually did so several years ago, with Rolling Stone sharing more about the inspiration that Black Mirror’s creator Charlie Brooker took from several sources.

Essentially, Brooker names Arcade Fire’s song Neon Bible as something he wanted to honor with the series itself and its title.

It's just one part of a much bigger notion though, as then Brooker also revealed Black Mirror reflects another moment many may relate to, when someone keeps staring at their device’s black mirror when it’s switched off.

While Arcade Fire’s song mostly predicted the actual political background, Brooker’s sci-fi show delved more into social context, making some of the most vile issues resurface.

Black Mirror Fans Had Their Own Ideas About the Title — and They’re Great

It might be due to the fact that some of Black Mirror’s viewers had no idea the actual explanation already existed, but this, however, paved the way for many more brilliant reflections on the show’s attempt to recreate its whole idea in one short title.

“The episodes aren't reflecting the dark side of individuals, but of our entire culture. Think carefully: the advanced technology itself is never what makes the story scary all by itself. It is always the way humans have adapted to use the technology”, Redditor friskafrask suggested, clarifying that the mirror is the reflection of ourselves while the colour black represents darkness.

Another user kurwaspierdalaj expanded Charlie Brooker’s idea, saying that at the end of each episode “the screen you're watching will go black and all you're left with is the reflection of yourself”.
