What Happened Between Smallville's Kristin Kreuk And Jensen Ackles?
Smallville may have wrapped more than ten years ago, but still holds a dear place in the hearts of its fans. First appearing on TV screens back in 2001, it charmed the audience for ten years. Despite failing ratings towards the end, it was renewed for its tenth and final season to finish wrapping up the story.
It told the tale of Clark Kent as a young man, offering a coming-of-age teen drama perspective on the Superman franchise.
Viewers saw Kent trying to come to terms with his alien heritage and budding powers while trying to navigate the tricky teen life of high school, romance, and the odd supernatural baddie. After an exhaustive search, Tom Welling was cast in the coveted lead role, although apparently, he took some convincing.
Kristin Kreuk portrayed Kent's sweet and caring neighbour, Lana Lang. She was an instant fan favourite from her very first appearance in episode one. Everyone loved her kind nature, particularly given she had endured so much personal tragedy. Her experience did not harden her, it made her care about others even more, which was truly endearing.
Jensen Ackles joined the cast in the fourth season, playing Jason Teague, Lana Lang's love interest. But Teague is ultimately revealed to be a villain, much to everyone's dismay. Ackles was originally meant to remain in the show through at least the fifth season, however, he was allowed to depart at the end of season four due to working on his next big hit show, Supernatural.
But the mystery here is what happened between Ackles and Kreuk behind the scenes? There was no denying their on-screen chemistry was on point, but that could be simply due to them both being such gifted actors. Nevertheless, heavy rumours have persisted that the pair were romantically involved until at least 2006.
This has never been explicitly confirmed by either of them, but what is known, is that they both dated other partners after apparently splitting in 2006. Ackles has gone on to marry Danneel Ackles in 2010 and the couple have welcomed three beautiful children into the world. Sadly Kruek's love story had a much less happy ending. She reunited with her ex-boyfriend Mark Hildreth and ended up embroiled in a horrifying sex trafficking scandal due to their nearly ten year membership with the NXIVM cult. Kreuk has never been convicted of any crime and maintains she knew nothing of the criminal activities in which NXIVM were involved. Allison Mack, one of her Smallville co-stars was, however, convicted of sex trafficking through the same cult in 2009.
The truth of what happened between Kreuk and Ackles may never been fully known. Fortunately for Ackles, he was never accused of having any involvement in the cult's activities.
