Who & Why Was Pursuing Ciri

From the beginning of the season, Ciri was hunted from all sides. Emperor Emhyr of Nilfgaard wanted her to be the heir to the throne of Cintra, and King Vizimir of Redania planned to marry her to consolidate his power.

Elven rebel Francesca Findabair and the sinister mage Rience saw her blood as the key to the salvation of the elven race and a source of powerful magic.

Meanwhile, Geralt, Yennefer, and Jaskier tried to hide Ciri from everyone while teaching her to control her powers.

The Fall of Arethusa and the Betrayal of Vilgefortz

The season culminated in a massive battle within the walls of the magical academy of Aretuza. The true architect of the chaos was the mage Vilgefortz, who was disguised as an ally and sought to obtain Ciri's power.

Vilgefortz staged an attack by Nilfgaardian forces and elves, killing most of the mages. Geralt suffered a crushing defeat and grievous wounds in his battle with Vilgefortz.

Despairing over her inability to control her powers, Ciri used an ancient obelisk in the tower of Aretuza, which caused a massive explosion and teleported her to the desert.

There, she had visions in which she communicated with Falka, a rebel and one of her distant ancestors. Although mirages tempt her to use chaos magic, she resists.

New Kings, the Rats Gang, and Ciri's Double

Following the events in Aretuza, the characters' paths diverged. Geralt, barely surviving, recovered in the Brokilon Forest. Meanwhile, in Redania, Dijkstra and Philippa, frustrated with King Vizimir's incompetence, assassinated him and placed his brother Radovid on the throne.

Ciri was rescued by a group of young criminals called the Rats. While in hiding, she took the name Falka.

In Nilfgaard, meanwhile, elves Francesca and Fringilla attempted to kidnap Ciri, but they were in for a surprise. It was not the real princess who was delivered to the emperor but rather her double.
