The actress' career does not lag behind that of her sister, Elle Fanning.

Long before Twilight, Dakota Fanning was known in the world of big cinema, as she participated in such projects as Sweet Home Alabama, Hide and Seek and even War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise.

The vampire saga only confirmed that Dakota had really come to the cinema in earnest and for a long time. Her success as the ruthless member of the Volturi, Jane, showed that the actress can handle diverse roles.

In 2011, Dakota took a break from filming because she wanted to graduate from school – she was homeschooled and studied in between filming.

But a year later, the actress returned and replenished her filmography with the melodrama Very Good Girls, where her co-stars were Elizabeth Olsen and Demi Moore.

In 2016, the premiere of the crime drama American Pastoral, starring Dakota, took place at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The plot of the Ewan McGregor ’s directorial debut, who also played the main character, was based on the novel by Philip Roth. The film was a deafening failure at the box office, earning less than 20% of its $10 million budget.

Two years later, the comedy-crime movie Ocean's Eight was released with Fanning as Penelope Stern. In addition to Dakota, Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway and Rihanna starred in the spin-off of the famous Steven Soderbergh’s film.

Then Dakota got a dramatic role in the psychological thriller show The Alienist. Along with Fanning, Daniel Brühl and Luke Evans were included in the main cast.

In 2019, the actress was cast in Quentin Tarantino 's latest movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.

Now the actress is developing her career, actively acting in movies and TV shows.

Along with Andrew Scott and Johnny Flynn, she has joined the cast of the new movie adaptation of Patricia Highsmith's novels, The Talented Mr. Ripley. The project was directed and written by Steven Zaillian, best known for films such as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Schindler's List.
