A plot hole in the film saga that fans can't forgive even after decades.

It seems no one has watched George Lucas' Star Wars saga more closely than its own fans. They are the ones who notice the glitches in the canon that go unnoticed by those who just want to see a Jedi battle and the Death Star blow up.

The most annoying is Vader and his selective mind-reading abilities.

The Empire Strikes Back: The Force in the Force

Darth Vader senses Luke's presence as soon as he enters the range of the Super Star Destroyer.

Later, during the duel, he learns that Luke has a sister simply by looking into his mind. The Force is working at maximum.

A New Hope: The Force is missing

But here's the dilemma. When Vader interrogates Leia, he can't use the same Force to find out where the Rebel base is.

He doesn't even feel that she has a brother — or that both Skywalkers are literally under his nose. Moreover, he doesn't recognize C-3PO, the droid he created himself.

It becomes clear: Vader's Force works not at the will of the Midi-chlorians, but at the whim of the screenwriter. When an emotional scene is needed — he feels it. When it is necessary to hide the intrigue — he forgets.
