What Will Happen in Yellowjackets Season 4 & How Many Seasons Are Planned, Explained

In Yellowjackets season 4, we may finally see the girls rescued from the woods, and Walter may play a major role in Taissa and Misty's confrontation with Shauna. Let's find out what the upcoming season holds for us.
On April 11, Showtime released the final episode of Season 3 of Yellowjackets. It hinted that in Season 4 the girls might finally be out of the woods. What else is in store for them and will Season 4 be the last?
Nat May Be the One Who Will Save the Girls
In Season 3, the girls got a real chance to go home. Scientists Hannah, Kodiak and Edwin, wandered into their camp. Lottie convinced many of the girls that a forest deity was helping them survive. In return, they were supposed to organize ritual hunts and feed the entity.
Lottie saw the researchers' appearance and the chance to return to civilization as a mistake, so she killed Edwin. Then Hannah got rid of Kodiak, hoping to gain the trust of the new leader, Shauna.
Nat repaired the radio and contacted a mysterious person. In Season 4, she will keep in touch with him and try to explain where the camp is. Nat will also have to confront Shauna, who will be furious that she disobeyed the leader.
Misty and Taissa Will Try to Deal With Shauna With the Help of Walter
In the 2020s, Shauna believed that someone was trying to kill her. After Van's death, Misty and Taissa teamed up to confront Shauna. They concluded that she had gone insane and that her thirst for violence could destroy the few remaining Yellowjackets.
In Season 4, Misty and Taissa may use their connections to kill Shauna or put her in jail, for example, for killing Adam Martin.
They are likely to get help from multimillionaire civilian detective Walter Tattersall, who may have his own dark secrets and hidden motives that have yet to be revealed.
Shauna Will Try to Find Melissa and Manipulate Her
In Season 4, Shauna will act alone – her husband and daughter decided to leave her. Jeff believed that Kelly was in danger because of Shauna. The connection to her mother's dark past has already ruined the girl's life – she became a killer, even though she pushed Lottie unintentionally.
However, Shauna may have a new ally – she will probably try to find Melissa and lure her to her side. In the past, Shauna easily manipulated her, and as the story has shown, the surviving women have not changed much in the time since they lived in the woods.
We Will Learn More About Strange Visions on the Plane
Many of the strange events in Yellowjackets can be explained logically. The visions were caused by the gas from the cave, the berry wine, the mushrooms, and the mental state of the girls.
However, there is one thing that has yet to receive a reasonable explanation: scenes with a plane. The Yellowjackets find themselves in a strange place after their deaths – the very plane they crashed in, where they are met by their younger versions.
In a conversation, the two versions of Van conclude that their deaths are not the end of the story. While the plane scenes clearly symbolize how teenage trauma affects the characters decades later, Yellowjackets still leans heavily on the supernatural.
So we can expect the creators to expand on the supernatural side of the story in the next season.
Showrunners Plan to Make Five Seasons, but Season 4 Hasn't Been Renewed Yet
So far, Yellowjackets has not been renewed for a fourth season. At the same time, showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson have said they are planning five seasons.
Fans of the show should not worry – as reported by Deadline, halfway through Season 3, Yellowjackets was up 39% in viewership on streaming. So it is only a matter of time before the show is renewed.
