Where is Harry Wild filmed? Harry's local, The Hairy Goose, is a real pub under a borrowed name
The best character in Harry Wild isn't Harry, and it isn't Fergus, and it isn't Glenn, though Glenn is close. It's the pub.
The Hairy Goose is where Harry drinks, plots, gets hired by desperate strangers and, on one memorable occasion, gets bombed. It looks exactly like the kind of Irish pub that exists in your head. And it turns out that's because it's a real one, wearing a fake sign.
The pub
The Hairy Goose is Brennan's Kilteel Inn, on Main Street in Kilteel, County Kildare, about half an hour west of Dublin. According to TV Acute, the production renamed it for the duration of the shoot, starting with Harry's retirement party in the very first episode.
What you're looking at when Harry orders a drink:
- A 100-year-old two-story building covered in ivy
- Two open fires and a tiled floor
- Pitch-wood bar and furniture that's been there longer than most of the cast has been alive
- A room the locals say is haunted, which, on a show about murder, is appropriate
The good news for anyone planning a pilgrimage: it's a working pub. You can walk in and order a pint under the Brennan's name and sit roughly where Jane Seymour has sat.
The Hairy Goose is fiction. The fireplace is not. Go for the fireplace.
Everything else is Dublin
The rest of the show is shot in and around the actual city, which is why the city feels like a character rather than a backdrop. Per the IMDb locations log and a few years of fan spotting:
- Killiney Hill, south of the city, is where those aerial shots come from, the ones above the Obelisk looking down toward Bray Head
- The Dropping Well, a pub in Milltown, was used in Season 1
- Trinity College turns up for the academic bits, because Harry is a retired literature professor and the show would like you to remember that
- Christ Church Cathedral and the Poolbeg chimneys show up as the kind of skyline furniture that tells you "Dublin" without a caption
Filming has run in blocks: summer 2021 for Season 1, late 2022 into 2023 for Season 2, summer-to-fall 2024 for Season 4, and September through December 2025 for the fifth season, which is due this year and adds Joe Lando, reuniting him with Seymour for the first time since Dr. Quinn.
The houses are the fun part
Jane Seymour has talked about the location work being the unexpected perk of the job. She told Express, via TV Acute, about shooting in one of the grand country houses the show borrows for its murder-of-the-week settings:
"We went to some beautiful country houses, one place was [author] Selina Guinness' home, really bizarre and eclectic and strange and really weird. She always invites rock and roll musicians to live there and play music, so various rock groups were coming in and out when we were filming there."
Which is exactly the kind of house you'd expect a body to turn up in on this show. Real Ireland has the set decorator beat.
If you're going
Kilteel is a village, not a destination. Bring a designated driver or a very patient taxi. Order something dark. Don't ask the staff to solve a murder; they've heard it.
