Where is Sheriff Country filmed? Edgewater's main drag is 25 miles outside Toronto
Sheriff Country is set in Edgewater, California, the same small town as Fire Country. The two shows film it in two different Canadian provinces, more than 2,000 miles apart.
CBS's Sheriff Country takes place in Edgewater, a fictional Northern California town, but nearly all of it is shot in Ontario. Edgewater's downtown is Main Street in Milton, a suburb about 25 miles from Toronto, per Good Housekeeping. Fire Country, the show it spun off from, shoots its Edgewater in and around Vancouver.
So one fictional California town currently exists in two Canadian provinces at once. The reason comes down to where Morena Baccarin's kids live.
The Edgewater map
The Milton footage is the town itself. Sheriff Country shot a police chase between James and Main Streets, used Knox Presbyterian Church and staged a crash between Mill Street and Rotary Park, per Primetimer's location guide. The rest of Edgewater County is spread across the Greater Toronto Area:
- Brampton: About 30 miles from Toronto. The Peel Art Gallery plays the Edgewater County Courthouse, and a real house stands in for the exterior of Sheriff Mickey Fox's home.
- Oakville: Doubles as Edgewater in some scenes.
- Mississauga: Hosted a drug chase and some of the hospital scenes.
- Hamilton: City Hall, the Central Fire Station, Dundurn Castle and the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum all show up on screen.
- Kleinburg Film Studios: The soundstages near Vaughan, where the interior sets are.
Parade says the Toronto area was chosen for landscapes that pass for Northern California. That's true as far as it goes. The bigger reason was the star.
Why it's not in Vancouver
Baccarin lives in New York City with her husband and three kids, and she told producers early that Vancouver was a dealbreaker, per TVLine. Toronto is a short flight from New York, which means she can go home on weekends.
"This is a no-brainer for me, but I cannot shoot in Vancouver."
— Morena Baccarin, to TVLine, July 2025
She expected a fight. Instead, the producers talked it over and moved the show east, and Baccarin said she was shocked. She credited Bruckheimer TV with making the process smooth. That's how Sheriff Country ended up in Kleinburg while Fire Country stayed in British Columbia.
What it means for the crossovers
Splitting Edgewater across the country made the franchise's favorite stunt harder. Max Thieriot, who co-created Sheriff Country and stars as Bode on Fire Country, told TVLine before the first season that crossovers "will be challenging," but added that nothing is impossible.

He was right on both counts. The two shows staged their first crossover in April 2026 anyway, a two-hour kidnapping case that started on one show and finished on the other. The second arrives on November 6, when Sheriff Country's "No Way In" leads into Fire Country's "No Way Out."
Edgewater has a sheriff in Ontario and a fire department in British Columbia. Every crossover is basically an interprovincial commute.
Next time Bode drives over to help Mickey, keep in mind he's covering roughly the distance from Vancouver to Toronto. For Edgewater, that's a short trip across town.
