Both of Wanda Maximoff's sons are now walking around the MCU. Their mother's last scene came out four years ago.

Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, 2026, and the Maximoff family is closer to complete than it's been since WandaVision. Billy arrived in Agatha All Along in 2024. Tommy is a lead in VisionQuest, which wraps its eight-episode run on Disney+ on November 11. Their father is back too, in a fashion, and so is the witch who spent a season hunting their mother.

The one Maximoff Marvel hasn't announced is Wanda. Elizabeth Olsen has been asked about it for a year, and her answers have been consistent.

Where we last saw Wanda

Wanda's last appearance was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness in 2022, where she brought Mount Wundagore down on herself to destroy every copy of the Darkhold. The film never showed a body. In Marvel terms, that's practically an open door.

Olsen wasn't among the names in Marvel's Doomsday cast reveal, and as of her latest interviews, the studio hadn't added her.

The boys are already here

Marvel has spent two shows putting Wanda's sons back into play:

  • Billy (Joe Locke): Agatha All Along revealed that Billy Maximoff's soul ended up in the body of a teenager named Billy Kaplan, and the series closed with him setting out to find his brother.
  • Tommy (Ruaridh Mollica): In VisionQuest, Tommy remembers two lives. Vision tells him he can't be his father and blames whatever happened on Wanda. In episode 6, Paladin tells Tommy that S.W.O.R.D. rebuilt Vision as a weapon designed to kill Wanda, and Tommy has visions of his mother and brother.

That leaves Wanda as the most-discussed person in a show she isn't in. VisionQuest has explained her, mourned her and put her on a screen inside Vision's head, and it still has two episodes to go.

Olsen's answer

In November 2025, while promoting Eternity, Olsen told The Playlist she didn't have an answer about Doomsday, per SuperHeroHype. She also said she wants to see Wanda come back because she likes what Marvel has done with the character.

"I just have no idea how or when, for sure."

— Elizabeth Olsen, on Wanda's return, to The Playlist

She knew more about VisionQuest than about the Avengers, and only because of Paul Bettany. She told Inverse the new series sounded like "a trifecta" with WandaVision and Agatha All Along. At C2E2 in March, asked again about her MCU future, she said she knew nothing beyond what Bettany had told her.

Marvel has reassembled a husband, two sons and the witch next door. The one person who connects all of them says she knows nothing.

Olsen could be telling the full truth, or doing what every Marvel actor does with a contract and a press tour. Either way, Wanda's family is in place, and Avengers: Secret Wars follows Doomsday a year later. If Marvel is saving her, it has already set the table.
